Diablo 4 Season 14: How to Choose the Best Mythic for Your Build?
Jul-01-2026 PSTSummary
Season 14 has completely changed how Mythic items work. Every Unique can now drop as a Mythic with boosted stats, which means your Diablo IV Items can gain far more power than ever before depending on the rolls you get. This guide covers the major changes and ranks all the Iconic Mythics from best to worst to help you decide which ones are worth targeting for your build.
What Changed in Season 14
Every Unique Can Be a Mythic
Any Ancestral Unique item can drop as a Mythic version with significantly boosted stats. A Mythic Death Mask for Rogues offers 97.5x damage and 50% attack speed, outperforming many traditional Mythics.
Iconic Mythics Got Nerfed
The classic Mythics took heavy hits:
Heir of Perdition went from 80x damage and critical strike chance to just 15x damage and no crit at all. Players are calling it "dog tier."
Harlequin Crest now gives +6 to all skills (up from +4) but lost its damage reduction entirely. Cooldown reduction doesn't roll higher than normal either.
Ring of Starless Skies previously gave 20%+ crit chance. Now even with perfect Masterworking you only get about 10%.
Fixed Affixes
Many Mythics now come with guaranteed stats:
The Grandfather guarantees Critical Strike Chance and Weapon Damage.
Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander only guarantees Lucky Hit: Chance to Restore Resource.
Doombringer only guarantees Percentage Maximum Life.
How to Craft
Horadric Cube Method: Requires an 850+ Item Power Unique + 5 Pandemonium Fragments. Preserves item type but randomizes affixes. Crafted Mythics get 30% boosted Unique Power.
Jeweler Method: Requires 3 Resplendent Sparks + 18 specific Runes. Lets you target-craft specific Mythics.
One critical limitation: You can only equip one crafted Mythic at a time. Dropped Mythics have no such limit.
The Tier List
S-Tier
The Grandfather (Two-Handed Sword)
This is the best Mythic in Season 14. It provides over 40% Critical Strike Chance from a single item with a Greater Affix and perfect Masterworking. This is massive because crit sources have been gutted everywhere else.
Ring of Starless Skies now gives ~10% crit. Heir of Perdition gives none. Other sources are similarly reduced. The Grandfather compensates for all these losses at once.
Any build that needs critical hits—which is most endgame builds—should prioritize this item. The Critical Strike Damage was reduced from 150% to 120%, but the massive crit chance boost makes it top-tier.
Eldruin (One-Handed Sword)
Eldruin remains king for speed farming. It provides exceptional cooldown reduction that normally requires a Harlequin Crest. If you need fast ability cycling but want a different helmet, this is your answer. Perfect for speed clearing content.
Mythic Death Mask (Rogue)
This converted Unique offers 97.5x multiplicative damage and 50% pure attack speed. These numbers are so high they outclass everything else. Rogues should prioritize this if possible.
A-Tier
Ring of Starless Skies
Nerfed but still solid. Attack speed remains, but crit chance is way down. The power isn't bad, but it's nowhere near what it used to be. Good for builds that don't need crit from their ring slot.
Harlequin Crest
+6 to all skills is a big buff, but losing damage reduction hurts. Cooldown reduction doesn't roll higher than normal either. Good for builds that want skill ranks and can survive without the built-in DR.
Tyrael's Might
Still provides percent-based resistance, which is great for Intelligence classes. The 20% damage reduction remains. However, converted Uniques like Mythic Rhyment offer 65% damage reduction, which outclasses this entirely. Consider whether the percent resistance is worth the trade-off.
Selig's (See League)
Still okay for Barbarian despite the nerf. Used in the rank 1 PTR push. Primarily for Barbarians due to Remaladni's Opus synergy. Other classes can use it but get less value.
B-Tier
Doombringer
Now only guarantees Percentage Maximum Life. Fine for survivability but nothing special. Most builds have better options.
Shroud of False God
Lost "+1 to all passives." Now gives all stats plus a cheat-death effect that resets only when you return to town. For softcore, defensive aspects are better. Hardcore players might find situational use, but it's limited.
Shattered Bow
Some play with damage-over-time builds. Very niche. Only consider if you're specifically building for DoT and have nothing better.
C-Tier & D-Tier
Heir of Perdition
Went from best to worst. 15x damage and no crit chance. Movement speed is nice but you can get that anywhere. Having it on a helmet slot is backwards. No build should run this. Salvage for a spark.
Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander
Always been bad. Still bad. Only guarantees Lucky Hit resource restore. No meaningful damage multiplier and takes a two-handed slot. Salvage immediately.
Shroud of the Fallen Star
No longer sees play. Lost "+1 to all passives." Now has a cheat-death effect that requires returning to town to reset. Defensive aspects are better. Salvage for materials.
Why the Meta Shifted
The Crit Crisis
Crit chance took massive hits across the board. Heir of Perdition lost its ~21% crit. Ring of Starless Skies dropped from 20%+ to ~10%. The Gar Room got cut in half from 25% to 10%.
The Grandfather fills this void by providing over 40% crit from one item. That's why it's essential now.
Converted Uniques Are Stronger
Many converted Mythics now offer better stats than nerfed Iconic ones. Mythic Death Mask gives 97.5x damage. Mythic Rhyment gives 65% damage reduction. Mythic Sea Lords gives 78x damage plus energy bonuses. Sometimes the best "Mythic" for your build isn't an Iconic Mythic at all.
Crafting Advice
Early Season: If you craft Heir of Perdition, read the stats carefully. It's trash now. Salvage it for a spark and try again.
Late Game Priority: Craft The Grandfather first if you need crit chance. Craft Eldruin if you want speed farming. Consider whether converted Uniques might serve your build better than Iconic Mythics. If you're on a budget, you can find cheap Diablo IV Items through MMOEXP to fill gear gaps while you work toward your ideal Mythic setup.
